Welcome to OBX Crabbing & Shrimping Charters!

We are a full-time commercial fishing family here to give your family a real Outer Banks experience. Our trips are very hands on, lots of fun, and educational. We often see dolphin, osprey, pelicans, and all types of marine life, along with catching some fresh North Carolina seafood that you get to keep!

Charters & Pricing

We offer 2 and 4 hour charters. Prices are for an entire party of up to 6 people.

2 HOURS: $300

4 HOURS: $500

Please note that the mate works for tips.  Mates provide a more enjoyable experience by ensuring a clean vessel and assisting your party during the charter.

Charters consist of pulling a trawl net for shrimp and/or fishing crab pots for crabs.

During the 4-hour charter, an equal amount of time is allotted to both fishing crab pots and pulling the net for shrimp.  This is our most popular charter, as it provides the most time for both activities.

For the 2-hour charter you may choose either shrimping or crabbing for the duration of the charter.

All necessary equipment is provided; all you need to bring is food, water, sunscreen, and a cooler to hold your catch!

About Us

WHERE IS OBX CRABBING AND SHRIMPING CHARTERS LOCATED?

We are located on Roanoke Island, across the bridge from Nags Head. The Jodie Kae is docked at 4457 Mill Landing Road, behind The Landing Grill at the Wanchese Marina

WHY 6 PASSENGERS?

As with most charter vessels, we are licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard to carry a maximum of 6 passengers per charter.

WHEN IS CHARTER SEASON?

The primary charter season runs from Memorial Day weekend through the month of October.  Crabbing charters are also possible during the spring months.

DO WE KEEP WHAT WE CATCH?

Yes! All shrimp, crabs, & legal finfish are yours to keep.

HOW MUCH CAN WE EXPECT TO CATCH?

We usually have a good catch of crabs on our trips; shrimping, however, is far less predictable, and the catch will vary depending on both season and time of day.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2 HOUR TRIP & THE 4 HOUR TRIP?

In short, the 4-hour trip means more time on the water, and therefore more catch.
Some parties have been concerned that their younger children may become bored on the longer trip, but this has yet to occur. There is plenty of activity to keep everyone’s interest for the duration of the 4 hour trip, but the 2 hour trip is available for those who prefer it.

WHERE WILL WE FISH?

Charters take place exclusively in the calm waters of the Roanoke Sound. We do not enter the ocean at all.

WHO IS CAPTAIN MARC MITCHUM?

Captain Marc Mitchum is a full-time waterman with over 35 years of experience fishing from the Gulf Stream to the sounds and estuaries surrounding Roanoke Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

WHAT ABOUT THE JODIE KAE?

The Jodie Kae is a 42' custom-built dead-rise work boat with a 430 horsepower Cummins diesel. She is outfitted with an enclosed toilet and shaded awning for your convenience.
